L8 informal interveiw

L8 informational interview report

Harry Rex
Principal of Lone Peak High School

1.)    What led you to this career?

I acted out when I was a kid. I wanted to be the one to set kids like me straight.

2.)    What is the most rewarding part?

Seeing what influence a good school system has on the kids. I have seen so many boys just transform from their sophomore to their senior year.

3.)    Are there any downsides to your job?

Having to watch the ones that don’t make it. We have a very low dropout rate but even still its hard to see some of my students give up.

4.)    What advice would you give someone pursuing this career?

When you’re working with kids you have to remember what it was like to be one.

5.)    What are your typical days like?

Well we do the morning announcements that I always say a word or two on. Then I monitor the detention classes and usually walk through certain classes just to observe.

6.)    Are there any major concerns you have concerning your job?

Just what I mentioned about the drop outs I want to get that low level to inexistent.

7.)    What are some exciting things about your job?

I love the assemblies. I like watching the students get involved and break out of their comfort zones.

8.)    Is there anything that you would change about your job Requirements?

Having to always be the enforcer.

I attended Lone Peak High School so choosing to interview him was an easy decision because I know how much he loves his job and his insight would be beneficial. We talked candidly for about thirty minutes before the interview even started which is why most his answers are so casual and from a perspective I already am familiar with. His charisma and caring about the students more make me want to pursue this career even more so. I love watching what he can do with students self confidence.
