1. Adroitness: “Skillful and adept under pressing conditions.” Not all of what happens in life and especially careers can be prepared for. Being able to adjust to life’s conditions will allow me to make the right decisions in challenging circumstances.
2. Altruism: “unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others” Any company cannot survive if each employees sole interest is their benefit, by placing people above ourselves success will be the result.
3. Assertiveness: “to or characterized by bold or confident statements and behavior” I want a career I can be assertive in and expect my coworkers to be as well. This, in any situation makes for a candid relationship which nothing will be harbored and festered about.
4. Integrity: “firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values: incorruptibility” Above all integrity is an important value because without it everything else falls away.
5. Strong Work Ethic: “Work ethic is a set of values based on hard work and diligence. It is also a belief in the moral benefit of work and its ability to enhance character” I value strong work ethics in people, in companies and in myself. Expecting hard work of myself allows me to expect it of others and with it any career can be successful.
6. Candor: “unstained purity; freedom from prejudice or malice : fairness” To not have politics dominating in a work place is very important to me, it allows for fair advancement regardless of irrelevant stimuli.
7. Loyalty: “the state or quality of being loyal; faithfulness to commitments or obligations. Faithful adherence to a sovereign, government, leader, cause, etc.” A companies loyalty to its employees as well as employees loyalty to its company is key to success otherwise one side or the other will become short changed.
8. Dependability: “the value of showing the reliability” My career is the only part of my life in which I value dependability. A steady source of income is required for the other less dependable parts of my life to function.
9. Enthusiasm: “something inspiring zeal or fervor” I have to be enthusiastic about what I’m doing in life, otherwise I won’t last long enough at them to succeed.
10. Perceptiveness: “the ability to perceive; keen in discernment” Being perceptive allows me to see the curves in the road before I miss a crucial turn in my career.
